Artist & Provenance
Bente Bjerregaard (1932–2023) was a Danish-Swedish artist with a long and well-established career. She studied in Copenhagen at institutions including Tekniske Skola and Glyptoteket, later continuing her education at Målarskolan Forum in Malmö, where she also pursued graphic studies. This foundation gave her a secure sense of form, colour, and composition.
After moving to Sweden in 1959, she worked primarily in Skåne, where the landscape and light around her home in Björnstorp outside Genarp became recurring sources of inspiration. Influenced by Paul Cézanne, Karl Isakson, and Henri Matisse, her motifs often included landscapes, still lifes, and figurative representations, executed in a colourful and personal style that combined Nordic sensibility with expressive visual language. Her works are frequently signed BBj.
Bjerregaard exhibited widely in Sweden and Denmark, with solo exhibitions in Malmö, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Stockholm, and Västerås, among others.
